In making my work my hope is to create a space in which the viewer can enter and explore. I want my work to have references to the world but be foreign to what is seen in my everyday life. I am intrigued by the way we interpret the world and wonder what is there that is not seen or understood.
My interest lies in discovering through the process of creating; making a mark, erasing, connecting one line to another, overlapping, seeing through, and editing out. I do not start with an idea or concept in mind. I balance intention and chance through moments of repetitive marks or patterning, with moments of poured paint or fast brush strokes.
Through these explorations I am trying to reference my experiences while also uncovering something unknown to myself. I use materials such as glitter, rhinestones, stickers, gold and silver leaf, and beads as a reference to my childhood and to craft. Through my process and materials I am in search of creating something that is playful, otherworldly and/or fantastical.
